Weston Barons Unable To Overcome West Haven Sailors' Late-Game Surge

The West Haven Sailors bested Weston Barons 5-4 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the sixth when Luke Anderson singled, scoring one run.

The Sailors were the first to get on the board in the first when Derek Porto hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. A double by Connor Crowley extended the West Haven Sailors lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning. A single by Zachary Rider extended the West Haven Sailors lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.

The Barons jumped back into the lead in the top of the fourth inning after a series of walks.

Sam Ametrano singled to center field, which helped the West Haven Sailors tie the game at four in the bottom of the fourth.

Connor Hume earned the win for West Haven. The hurler allowed zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Steve Cifarelli started the game for the Sailors. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out two and walking two. John DeBarber collected the save. Kyle Egidio and Brian Goglia each appeared in relief for the Sailors.

West Haven accumulated nine hits in the game. Collin Tenney and Brian Hersh each collected two hits. Rider, Ametrano, Porto, Anderson, and Crowley each drove in one run. West Haven turned one double play in the game, and didn't commit a single error in the field. Robert Black had the most chances in the field with seven.
