West Haven Sailors Swept Double Header Over 5 Star CT

Aidan Goodsen drove in four runs on two hits to lead the West Haven Sailors past 5 Star CT 11-2 on Sunday at West Haven High School. Goodsen singled in the fourth inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the sixth inning, scoring two.

West Haven won thanks in part to seven runs in the fourth inning. Brian Hersh singled, scoring one run, Jeremy Rodriguez doubled, scoring two runs, Zachary Rider drew a walk, scoring one run, Goodsen singled, scoring two runs, and Evan Jones singled, scoring one run.

5 Star CT were the first to get on the board in the second when Drew Sargolini singled, scoring one run.

Rider grounded into a fielder's choice, which helped West Haven Sailors tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.

Connor Hume earned the win for the Sailors. The starter gave up three hits and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking none.

In Game 2, despite trailing by as many as four runs, West Haven rallied to best 5 Star CT 10-7 on Sunday at West Haven High School.

West Haven tied the game in the bottom of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly by B Hersh, a dropped third strike, and a walk by Riley Reimund.

The Sailors flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 9-7. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.

Hersh provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led West Haven with two runs batted in. Tyler Fonck, Derek Porto, Tim Capp, Anthony Lucibello, and Brandon Chung each collected one hit for the West Haven Sailors. West Haven Sailors had patience at the plate, accumulating nine walks for the game. Reimund and Collin Tenney led the team with two walks each. Reimund, Porto, and Chung each stole multiple bases for West Haven Sailors. West Haven stole 11 bases in the game.
