West Haven Sailors Smothers Southington in Low Scoring Playoff Matchup

West Haven Sailors defeated Southington 1-0 on Thursday at Southington High School as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jesse Buonocore and Kyle Egidio combined for the shutout for the Sailors in the game. Egidio induced a fly out from Carson Lentini to get the crucial last out in this low scoring affair. Both teams were very strong on the hill. West Haven pitchers struck out eight on the way to victory.

A single by Sam Ametrano scored the decisive, lone Sailors’ run in the top of the sixth. Egidio then came in to pitch and collected the save in the bottom of the seventh.
Buonocore earned the win for West Haven. The starter allowed four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out eight and walking none. Matt Walling took the loss for Southington. The hurler went six innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out none and walking none.
Evan Jones and Connor Crowley along with Ametrano each collected one hit for West Haven Sailors. Ametrano went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with that one run batted in.
West Haven looks to continue its unbeaten playoff run.
