West Haven Sailors Cling To Victory As GoldStar Generals Nearly Erase 5-Run Deficit

Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, the West Haven Sailors still held off for an 11-9 victory on Thursday. The GoldStar Generals closed the gap by scoring on a hit by pitch, an error, a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly, a double, a sacrifice fly, and a sacrifice fly.
Both offenses were strong at the plate as West Haven collected 11 hits and GoldStar eight in the high-scoring affair.
West Haven jumped out to the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Anthony Lucibello doubled, scoring one run, Tim Capp doubled, scoring one run, Spadaccino doubled, scoring two runs, and Sean Cleary grounded out, scoring one run.

A sacrifice fly by Spadaccino extended the Sailors lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the third inning.
GoldStar Generals tied the game in the top of the fifth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Wyatt Verbridge, and a double by Ross Treubig.
West Haven captured the lead, 11-7, in the bottom of the fifth after Zachary Rider grounded out, and Kyle Justo singled down the left field line, each scoring two runs.
Steve Cifarelli earned the win for West Haven. The pitcher gave up five hits and five runs over two and one-third innings, striking out two and walking two. Avery Guernsey took the loss for GoldStar Generals. The southpaw went two innings, giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits, striking out one and walking two.
The Sailors accumulated 11 hits in the game. Capp, Lucibello, Connor Crowley, and Spadaccino each collected two hits for West Haven. Spadaccino went 2-for-2 at the plate and led the team with three runs batted in. Ryan Slack paced West Haven with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up six walks for the game.
