West Haven Defeats Bridgeport Behind Six Quality Innings From Hume

After dropping their initial playoff matchup in disappointing fashion, the Sailors turned the page with a win over the Barnums Friday evening. The 6-1 win was headlined by six innings of shutout pitching by sophomore starter Connor Hume.
West Haven failed to put up a run the game prior, so how do they respond to that? They plated four in the top of the first to jump out to a 4-0 lead. CJ Berlingo recorded an RBI single for the team’s first run as a Nicolas Piscioniere sacrifice fly and two different hit by pitches to drive in a run were recorded.
Sophomore Evan Jones added insurance with his RBI double in the top of the third, allowing Brady O’Neil to score. Jones tallied two hits and three RBIs in the West Haven victory. He added his last hit and RBI in the seventh inning with his RBI single, driving in Paden Larkins for the team’s sixth and final run.
It was a nice win for West Haven as they kept their season alive. The Sailors next game is Saturday evening vs. Waterbury, in which the loser will be eliminated from the CCBL playoffs.
