After their game against the Hamden Miners was postponed on Sunday, the Sailors kicked off a stretch of five games in six days with a loss to the Silk City Sluggers at home 4-0.
In a pitcher’s duel, Brian Goglia started the game for West Haven and delivered an exceptional four innings of one-hit, shutout ball. Silk City immediately jumped on the Sailors bullpen, tagging upperclassmen Marco Raterman for two runs in a ⅓ of an inning and Brock Goodwin for another two runs in 1 ⅔ innings of work.
Sluggers starter Noah Terzo spun a gem, delivering a complete game shutout on 113 pitches while allowing only four hits to West Haven while striking out a dozen batters. West Haven threatened late by loading the bases with one out, yet Terzo prevailed and preserved his shutout victory.
Sailors leadoff hitter Tyler Fonck accounted for half of West Haven’s hits in the game, tallying two on the day. Centerfielder Dylan Agvent and shortstop Derek Porto each stole a base in the losing effort.
Despite the tough loss, West Haven looks to change their fortunes with a Tuesday night matchup on the road against the Hamden Miners.
