Jack Hawes was dominant Thursday night as the West Haven Sailors beat the Glastonbury Arrows 6-1 at Riverfront Park.
The starter twirled 5 shutout innings and only gave up one, striking out five and walking one en route to the win.
The sailors scored 5 runs off Arrows' starter Graydon Vyse, 4 of which were earned. He would take the loss for Glastonbury as he struggled to find the zone, surrendering 9 walks across 5 strikeouts.
West Haven Sailors opened the scoring in the first after Ryan Slack hit into a double play, but one run scored. Sam Ametrano singled in the second to score another. Later, pinch hitter Sean Cleary singled, scoring two more in the top of the sixth. The catcher went 1-for-1 on the day and led the team with two runs batted in.
Leadoff hitter, Ametrano, led West Haven with two hits in four at bats. Riley Reimund led the Sailors with three walks and stole two bases. The Sailors ran wild on the base paths, amassing four stolen bases for the game.
The Sailors next game has been postponed with no make up date yet.
