Slack Records Five RBI as Sailors Beat Down Pioneers

West Haven’s offense surged Thursday night in their 14-5 win over Western Mass. Cleanup hitter Ryan Slack recorded five runs batted in on the night as the engine of the Sailors offense.
Initially down 2-0 after the first inning, West Haven went on to score nine unanswered runs into the fifth inning. Freshman CJ Berlingo went yard to tie the game at two in the second inning. First baseman Luke Anderson went deep in the fourth as his three-run homer gave the Sailors a 5-2 lead.
The second baseman Slack joined in on the fun with a grand slam to break the game open in the fifth for a 9-2 lead. Five more runs were added across the last two innings for the sailors en route to their big victory.
Sophomore Collin Tenney delivered five innings of solid pitching, allowing two earned runs and striking out three. Michael Merchant supplied two innings of relief for the Sailors.
The offensive outburst saw West Haven record three home runs, four stolen bases, nine hits, 12 runs batted in and 14 runs scored.
West Haven looks to keep the bats hot as they host the Meriden Riptide Friday evening.
