Sailors Fall Behind Early, Drop Matchup Against Riptide

West Haven lost their Friday night matchup against Meriden 6-2. After trailing 4-0 after three innings, the deficit was not recovered after the Riptide’s offense unleashed 15 base hits.
Sophomore Connor Hume started the game on the mound for the Sailors. He pitched to a tune of four innings while allowing three earned runs. Brock Goodwin and John DeBarber each delivered an inning of relief while both allowing a run.
Riptide starting pitcher Aiden Carabollo had his stuff working on the bump, pitching five shutout innings while striking out seven. He only allowed two West Haven hits in his effort.
Following Carabollo’s exit, the Sailors got on the board in the top of the sixth inning after sophomore Chad Byrd recorded an RBI triple to bring home Paden Larkins. Freshman CJ Berlingo grounded into a fielder’s choice as Byrd scored West Haven’s second run of the ballgame.
Derek Porto and Jose Padilla each stole a base despite the loss. West Haven’s next chance vs. Meriden comes next Wednesday in a home matchup.
The Sailors look to flush the loss as they prepare for five games in five days next week, starting with a home tilt vs. Waterbury.
