Late Score Costs West Haven Sailors Against Silk City Sluggers

The West Haven Sailors stayed in it until the end, but the Silk City Sluggers pulled away late in a 4-3 victory on Monday at West Haven High School. The game was tied at three in the top of the sixth when Zaynn Godbee doubled, scoring one run.
A double by Hersh put the Sailors on the board in the bottom of the first.
A single by Godbee gave Silk City Sluggers the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second.

Evan Jones singled down the left field line, which helped West Haven tie the game at two in the bottom of the second.
Silk City took the lead in the top of the third after Braiden Alaimo tripled, scoring one run, to give the Sluggers the upper hand, 3-2.
Connor Crowley doubled to right field, which helped West Haven tie the game at three in the bottom of the fourth.
Godbee was a thorn in the Sailors side as that late inning double gave the Sluggers a lead they would not relinquish.
Kyle Egidio took the loss for West Haven. The hurler went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run on two hits, striking out four and walking one. Steve Cifarelli stepped on the hill first for the Sailors. The pitcher allowed three hits and three runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking two.
West Haven is not out of it yet but they have a hill to climb now in the losers bracket. They look to regroup when they play on Thursday.
