Huge Sixth Inning Unfolding Proves Costly in West Haven Loss

Saturday’s matchup was a game to forget for the Sailors as allowing six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning led to their 11-2 loss. West Haven initially had a 2-1 lead until Danbury took control from the third inning and on.
After a scoreless first inning, West Haven grabbed the lead after Brady O’Neil scored on a wild pitch. Just a pitch later, Sean Cleary scored on a second consecutive Danbury wild pitch. O’Neil and Cleary had set the table by recording a single and double in their plate appearances.
Freshman starter Will Schreiber got the starting nod on the bump and pitched five innings for the Sailors. He struck out four while allowing six hits and five runs (four earned) in the contest.
The two runs in the second inning is all West Haven would show for in the loss. The team recorded four hits while striking out a dozen times as the Danbury pitching was efficient.
The Sailors road trip continues on Monday with a visit at Waterbury to take on the Silverbacks.
