West Haven picked up the win Wednesday night after shutting out Glastonbury 6-0. In a total team effort, the Sailors threw out five different pitchers to hold their opponent to zero.
Sophomore Connor Hume started the game for West Haven and delivered two shutout innings. Brian Goglia follows that up with two shutout innings of his own, including striking out five. Michael Merchant, Brock Goodwin and John DeBarber closed the game with a shutout inning of their own. DeBarber struck out the side to end the game.
The Sailors offense struck first after a Glastonbury error. Center fielder Dylan Avgent drove in two runs on the play with Paden Larkins and Nicolas Piscioniere scoring.
West Haven scored another two in the bottom of the third. Larkins drove a double into left field to bring home Derek Porto and later scored on a passed ball. The second baseman Larkins reached base in all three of his plate appearances, recording a walk and two hits while also stealing a base.
Another two runs were scored in the fifth and sixth innings for West Haven, including an RBI single from third baseman Aiden Goodson. The Sailors also swiped four bases in the win.
The Sailors will hit the road for their next game as they’re slated to square up against the Simsbury SaberCats Friday night.
