The Sailors defeated the Miners 4-3 in a nail biter Tuesday night via walk off fashion. Sophomore center fielder Dylan Avgent had the game winning RBI to prevail in the bottom of the seventh.
First-year Sailor Jose Padilla drove in the game’s first run with an RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning, bringing home junior backstop Sean Cleary. Hamden quickly took a 2-1 advantage in the top of the third, but West Haven responded right back after left fielder Kyle Justo tied the game with an RBI single.
Pitching took over on each side until the top of the sixth as Hamden regained a 3-2 lead. Once again, West Haven fought back in the bottom of the inning after freshman CJ Berlingo scored on an error.
The Sailors loaded the bases with one out in the final inning as Dylan Avgent called the game with his walk. Timely hitting and quality at-bats ensured the victory for West Haven Tuesday night.
Looking to ride a hard fought victory, the Sailors prepare for a third straight game as they host a home game against the Weston Barons on Wednesday night.
